Joining a gym can put you on the path to achieving your fitness goals. While simply showing up is the first step in the right direction, it is imperative to have the best tools in your arsenal, or as in this case -  in your gym bag, to make for a healthier and more effective sweat session.

1.    Sweat Resistant T-Shirt
You may have a ripped body, but don’t be tempted to wear anything that reveals more of your torso than it covers. Your shirt should neither flap about, nor should it be so tight that you can’t turn your torso. Opt for something form-fitting in a material with elasticity that provides heat and sweat wicking while allowing airflow. TheMard Recommends - Nike Core Compression T-Shirt

2.    Breathable Shorts
Shorts
Cotton shorts will absorb sweat and weigh you down. Wear ones that are lightweight and remain dry. The length should be mid-thigh and it should have a pocket to hold your iPod, Mp3 Player or phone playing your Workout Playlist. TheMard Recommends - Adidas Core Polyester Shorts

3.    Right Trainers
Trainers
This is probably the most important of all gym wear. There are tonnes of trainers out there designed for various purposes and it is very important that you choose the right ones. Those who do more cardio than weights need shoes with better upper support and a spongier sole, whereas a pair of Converse with their flat hard soles is perfect for squatting. TheMard Recommends - Nike Men's FS Lite
Bonus Tip: Don't forget a pair of flip flops for the locker room shower to ward off nasty foot fungus infections.

4.    Performance Socks
Sticky, sweaty socks are extremely uncomfortable and greatly reduce your performance. Opt for a breathable pair with antimicrobial and wicking technology. TheMard Recommends - Adidas AD2484

5.    Gym Bag
Gym Bag
You need a bag to carry all the stuff in this list. The gym deserves more than a junky bag that makes you look like you’ve just done the weekly grocery shop when you exit the gym. Go for a lightweight bag, because while carrying sneakers, towels and clothes, the last thing you need is a heavy bag. Antibacterial or odour-killing lining with a separate shoe compartment is desirable. TheMard Recommends - Puma Black

6.    Headphones
EarPhones
Music is incredibly motivating and it makes sure that you don’t get distracted from your workout. High quality headphones that won’t fall out during an intense set of snatches or when you’re sweating it out on the treadmill are hence essential for every man who takes his workout session seriously. In-Ear or Over/On-Ears are according to your personal preference.
Bonus Tip: Your personal selection will deliver better results than the stuff they play at the gym. TheMard Recommends - Bose SoundSport

7.    Heart Rate Monitor Watch
It tells you if you’re exercising at the desired heart rate, or if you need to increase or decrease your intensity. It also counts the amount of calories you burn more accurately than the machines. TheMard Recommends - Polar FT7 Heart Monitor

8.    Water Bottle

Bottle

A gym bag isn't complete without a bottle. You can use it for your all of your pre, intra and post workout refreshment needs. With this, you not only eliminate the health risks of drinking water from the drinking fountain, but also do Mother Nature a favour by not buying the plastic bottled water. TheMard Recommends - Reebok AJ6732
