A man can be judged by the shoe that he wears. Be it a job interview or a first date, your shoes play a pivotal role in forming a person’s first impression about you. Here is a list of what NOT to do to ensure that you get your footwear right.

1.    Casual Shoes With Formal Attire
If you want to look like a gentleman, you need to wear shoes like one too. A smart formal look is ruined when you don’t match your outfit with the right dress shoes.

2.    Brown Shoes With a Black Suit
Black Pants Brown ShoesAgreed that sometimes contrast is the key, but not in this case. A dapper black suit with black dress shoes is a classic look that shouldn’t be fiddled with.

3.    Sneakers on A Date
In a recent survey, single women revealed that one of the biggest turn-offs on a first date is if the guy turns up in his sneakers. It projects you as someone who didn’t care enough about getting yourself together for your date.

4.    Unpolished Shoes
Shiny Shoes BrownWhether the shoes are polished or not reveal a lot about a man. A scuffed pair of shoes indicates a man of chaotic habits whereas a well-worn but highly polished pair suggests one who is able to take care of the things he loves.

5.    Black Shiny Leather Shoes With Jeans
Unfortunately, jeans don’t go with everything, especially with shiny leather shoes. Just because sneakers aren’t allowed in nightclubs doesn’t mean you substitute them with your fancy dress shoes.

6.    Socks With Sandals
Sandals and SocksSocks and sandals are incompatible like oil and water. Wikipedia even has a dedicated page called ‘Socks and Sandals’ which describes wearing socks with sandals as a “controversial fashion combination” and “fashion faux pas”.

7.    Ditching Socks While Working Out
Socks are the unsung heroes that keep your feet comfortable while you work out. They prevent your sneakers from stinking if you have sweaty feet, and also save you from blisters which are caused by your bare feet rubbing against the shoe, especially when it’s new.

8.    Flip-Flops Unless At The Beach Or Pool
Flip FlopsAlthough summer’s official footwear is the flip-flop, you should opt for sandals instead unless you’re going to the beach or hanging out by the poolside. Not only does it look better, but it is also better for your feet as recent studies have shown that wearing flip-flops for long periods of time can lead to health issues.

Style is relative. Different people, places and time periods have different opinions of what is fashionable. Some might disagree with what this blog dictates as good style and even though some of the above rules are immutable, if you’re confident, you’ll look good in just about anything!
